The alarming overpopulation in the world currently is a significant issue and one to be brought to your attention. In Mr. Paul R. Ehrlich's best selling book "The Population Bomb," he highlights and points out issues and flaws in our overpopulation problem. A significant issue that has been highlighted is that in the 1950s and 60s there was an incredible "population explosion" and then this led to mass starvation in the 80's and other major social upheavals and immediate action was supposed to limit population growth. Some statistics that should be brought to your attention is that growth is expected to be most rapid in the 49 least developed countries, which are projected to double in size from around 900 million inhabitants in 2013 to 1.8 billion in 2050. Also the population of Africa is expected to more than double by mid-century, increasing from today's 1.1 billion and potentially reaching 4.2 billion by 2100. These facts are alarming and clearly indicate that there is a serious problem occurring in the world. In 1967 there were 3 billion people in the world, now there are over 7 billion people. These figures and statistics show is that over population is a significant issue and one that must be addressed immediately.
